Education Specialist - Seasonal (Zoo Summer Camp)

Reid Park Zoological Society is seeking seasonal temporary part-time educators to instruct the Zoo’s summer camp. Bachelor’s degree in the biological sciences, education or related field preferred but not required. Experience working with children is required. Strong presentation and communication skills are required.
This position is open until filled. Applicants must be available during the day, Monday-Friday weekly from June – July. Start date will be as soon as possible to allow for training. During training educators will assist and teach a variety of education programs at the Zoo. This position is a temporary position which will end date August 4.

Responsible for set-up, instruction, and clean-up for a variety of educational programs for all ages.
Reports To: Education Supervisor
Pay: $17.65 per hour
Responsibilities:
- Instructs engaging interpretive on/off site education programs (with a focus on summer camp), during regular operating hours and after-hours as needed.
- May accesses behind-the-scenes areas of the Zoo
- Handles live education animal ambassadors
- Follows Zoo safety protocols and procedures
- Driving to off-site programs as needed in a Zoo provided vehicle
- Provides excellent guest service during programs
- Communicates clearly with supervisors before and after programs.
- Promotes Reid Park Zoo’s mission and key education and conservation goals.
- Assists as needed at special events.
- Completes trainings as required. These may include but are not limited to animal handling, safety, CPR/ First Aid, DEI and zoonotic disease training.
- Be able to perform those tasks that are essential to the job, with or without reasonable accommodation.

Preferred Qualifications, Skills and Abilities
- Bachelor's degree (earned or working towards) in the biological sciences, education, or related field preferred but not required.
- Basic understanding of a zoo’s role in protecting wildlife and encouraging conservation
- Experience working directly with children is required
- Ability to work outdoors in all weather (especially summer) and varying temperatures
- Ability to perform light physical tasks such as lifting tables and chairs (25 lbs).
- Strong communication & presentation skills
- Availability to work Mon-Fri during the day through June-July
- Regular physical attendance at work
- A valid, current, unrestricted driver license
- Successfully complete pre-hire background check and pre-employment drug screen (we do not test for THC)
- Comply with quarterly random drug testing if selected
- Proof of negative TB test within immediate past 12 months, OR, complete a pre-hire TB test (company paid) to be renewed annually
- Current (2025+) COVID-19 Booster
