Events Technician - Full Time

Reid Park Zoological Society is seeking a full time Event Technician to fill an important position on our Events and Rentals Team. Two years commercial experience in building displays for retail, hospitality or attractions preferred.

The Society is a 501(c) (3) nonprofit organization whose mission is to create inspiring memories for all by connecting people and animals to ensure the protection of wild animals and wild places.  We provide educational and fun experiences for visitors of all ages. Overview

Under guidance from the Events Supervisor, this position will carry out and coordinate installation, tear down and execution of special events and facility rentals, organize storage and maintenance of assets and supplies, oversee physical special projects, and support a variety of physical and maintenance needs. This is a hands-on position in a fast-paced environment of a growing organization.  Reid Park Zoological Society is an equal opportunity employer.

Responsibilities:

 

  • Event Displays

Provide support in the effective design and implementation of lighting and displays for events.  Create and install visual light and sound displays, as well as themed environments for events including Boo at the Zoo, Zoo Lights and other major and minor events. 

Hang and install lights and physical exhibits, maintaining operation of lights and displays throughout the events.

At end of events, dismantle, repair, and store all event materials in a timely and organized manner.

Operation of heavy equipment including forklift trucks and aerial lifts.  This is a safety sensitive position due to this duty.

Throughout the year, maintain an inventory of lighting and event materials, being accountable for materials and equipment used.

Keep event work areas clean and organized throughout the year.

Utilize and oversee volunteers, part-time staff or contractors in preparing displays as needed.

  • Event and Program Support

 Coordinate assigned aspects of events and programs including venue logistics (set up & tear down), audio/visual, and lighting.  This may include tents, water jugs, tables, chairs, stanchions, etc.

 Prepare audiovisual needs and coordinate with vendors as needed for events or rentals. Maintain all department equipment and supplies related to the event/program in an organized manner. 

Create props and themed displays for programs or events as requested.

Meet and oversee contractors, vendors, volunteers, and entertainers before and during events.

Provide staffing services as needed during event.  This may include greeting, moving equipment, assisting guests and any other duties requested.

  • Facilities Maintenance

Maintain all department equipment and supplies including tools, presentation equipment, sound systems, signage hardware, and vehicles.

Keep public and behind-the-scenes areas well maintained, organized, and clean.

De-litters zoo grounds and around buildings. Removes trash, leaf litter and brush.

Assist with installation, cleaning, ordering, maintaining and removing items as requested including signage, hardware, and vehicles.

Safely operates golf carts, forklift and transports equipment by towing trailers.

Required Qualifications:

Two years commercial experience in building displays for retail, hospitality or attractions preferred.

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Two years commercial experience in building displays for retail, hospitality or attractions preferred.
  • Experience operating equipment including fork lift truck, aerial lift, scissor lift and boom lift preferred.  Willing to undertake training to become a certified operator.
  • OSHA 10-hour safety certification preferred. 
  • Experience in safe use of power tools, hand tools and ladder safety.
  • Regular physical attendance at work.
  • Demonstrated artistic background or creative ability desirable.
  • Arizona driver’s license without restrictions required.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Windows, experience using MS Office & email.
  • Basic mathematical capability.
  • Ability to lift up to 40+ lbs. Ability to walk, stand, bend, climb and reach for prolonged periods of time.
  • Ability to work outside and perform physical work in extreme wet, cold or hot weather conditions and range of temperatures.
  • Ability to work at heights.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and oral.
  •  Flexible, can-do attitude. Able to cope with last minute changes.
  • Good customer service skills with ability to work with a variety of people and personalities and support the Zoo’s efforts to provide an excellent guest experience at all events.
  • Demonstrated ability to tactfully handle stressful situations, negotiate and resolve conflicts, maintain confidentiality, and to respect and observe organizational protocol.
  • Must be able to work flexible work schedule including nights, weekends and holidays with flexibility for changing hours. Able to pass pre-employment background check, drug screen and DMV check. 

THE HIRING RANGE FOR THIS JOB IS $17.30 - $20.33 HOURLY.
